Problem Based Learning Activity
This is a group activity that I designed as part of a new introductory training class, Tableau Like a Pro. The class was aimed at staff new to data visualization and unfamiliar with using data visualization software program, Tableau Desktop.
I collaborated with subject matter experts to understand challenges, researched best practices by attending workshops, and designed a scaffolded class that was delivered in in-person and virtual instructor-led formats. The class was enhanced and expanded iteratively based on collected feedback from staff participants, subject matter experts, and course facilitators.
As part of the educational program, I developed a series of scaffolded group activities to be integrated into the individual sessions of the class. These group activities consisted of application-based exercises for individuals and small teams to complete during class time. The exercises enabled course facilitators to identify remediation and reinforcement of concepts and techniques where needed.
During the final session of the class, small teams would prepare a Tableau dashboard and present their insights to two fictional customer stakeholders introduced at the start of the course. The produced presentations enabled staff to apply and demonstrate their proficiency with visualizing data and using Tableau Desktop.
